We always like to recycle old items and get some ideas of how to best utilize them and convert them to masterpieces. It’s not only great for the environment but will also save you some money! But if you can’t recycle these old items, you might want to sell them. Kids love garage sales, so why not let your kids organize, prepare and help with the garage sale. You not only clean out your closets, but you will also be making a little extra cash.

Embrace the summer with incorporating brighter decorations in your home. Remove anything that evolves heat, such as heavy drapes or curtains, rugs, fire logs, etc. Replace those with beautiful fresh flowers, candles, and lightweight mats. Put winter away!

Paint: Summer is a great opportunity for projects to update your door trims, windows, picnic table, deck, or any other piece of furniture that may need a fresh coat of paint. If you have the time and your rooms might need it, paint them with bright and light colors. You’ll be amazed to see what a fresh paint job does for a minimal amount of cash and in no time at all!

Clean your grill: A good idea to clean your grill while it is still warm. Scrub those grates with a wire brush. If you have a bigger mess than most, then take the grate off the grill and place it in a ventilated area. Use rubber gloves to protect your hands, then spray the grates with an oven cleaner. That will melt down the sticky grime.

Clean the washing machine: most washing machines have a foul odor during summertime, especially in high humidity areas. To get rid of that smell, run an empty load using hot water and detergent. Once the washing machine is complete, keep the door open to let it dry thoroughly.

Clean your dryer vent: Many old dryers are the cause of home fires. It’s a good idea to clean your dryer vent if you haven’t cleaned in a year or two. First, unplug the dryer. If you have a gas dryer, shut off the gas. Pull the dryer out a bit, just to the extension of your vent hose. Loosen the vent clamp on the back of the dryer with a screwdriver. Slide the vent off the dryer, then reach as far as you can into the hole and also into the vent tubing and pull out all the lint and build up. You may need a vacuum cleaner to vacuum around thoroughly as well. After this is completed, slide the clamp back on. If you can do this yourself, remove the vent on the outside and clean that as well.
Have a great summer cleaning!
